To make sure you are sewing with a
scant 1/4" seam allowance, do a quick test. Sew three 1 1/2"
wide strips together. The measurement across the strips
should be 3 1/2". |

Warm smile
What do you do when you lovingly volunteer to travel with your
husband to watch him shoot rockets and fly model airplanes and
you want to stay home and sew? Why you take your machine
to the flying field and sew away! That's what Michelle
M. did last weekend! Notice the hand-crank sewing
machine and the big smile! 'Sure honey, I'm watching!'
Send your quilty pictures of your friends to the
Historian or to Betty, she will get them posted!

Judith Mobley- Quilt Angel 2008
Congratulations to Judy Mobley for being awarded the
Quilt Angel award for 2008. Her generosity and
willingness to share were some of the quotes from those who
nominated her. We received a Thank You note from
Judy: "I'm still speechless and in awe of being the
recipient of the "Quilt Angel" award. I had no idea
doing what I love most, quilts and sewing, led to the special
award. Thank you and the guild".

- pictured of the 2009 Donation quilt featured behind Jane
Thomas. Ticket sales are booming, but we still have a
long ways to go to meet our reachable goal of $10,000.
We can do it, but need EVERYONES help selling tickets.
This is an awesome quilt, anyone would be happy to win it.
The Meetings
Our meetings begin at 7:00 PM with social time from 6:30 -
7:00. Each month we have a short "business" meeting before
members share their latest accomplishments with "Show and
Tell". We then take a break for cookies and drinks before
enjoying our speaker (for a calendar of upcoming speakers
included Billie Lauder, Trish Hodges and Pat Speth. Some
months we are also able to offer a separate workshop (usually
the following Thursday or Saturday) with that month's speaker.
Meetings are at the Salt Grass Trail Building, Farm & Ranch
Club, Abercrombie Drive off of Patterson.

We design our programs to be attractive and educational for
all levels of quilters from beginner to experienced. Every
meeting provides new tips and/or inspiration. To further this
goal, one meeting during the year is devoted to exhibiting
different quilt making techniques instead of hosting a
speaker. |
Our History
The West Houston Quilter's Guild is a non-profit
organization founded in 1993 with the purpose of developing
and nurturing appreciation for the art of quilting and its
history. Simply put, we are a group of people who love quilts! |

takers needed! If you bring your digital camera to
guild, quilt shows, Bee events or other candid shots, please send
your photos for the website to Betty Baker!
Please remember that workshop fees help enable
the guild to bring top quiltmakers to lecture and teach.
If you've never attended before, give it a whirl!
You'll find it can be great fun - and give you lots of ideas for
new projects or ways to finish old ones.
Be sure to check the
PROGRAMS links for upcoming events and the
Calendar EVENT page for Quilt show and other events
around Texas!
For those who love appliqué and detest
carrying around a whole bunch of spools of thread, buy one of
those bobbin cases that are made of clear plastic and hold about
30 bobbins. They are made of clear plastic. Then fill the bobbins
with all kinds of colors. This way you can clear out some of those
nearly used up spools. Place them in a logical order (i.e.) all
the shades of pink / blue/green in a row. Put the lid on and wrap
a strong elastic band around. When you travel you have all the
colors you need.
Comfort Quilters
The 2009 WHQG Community Service Bee (Comfort
Quilters) has started working on projects for this year. If
you have any questions or suggestions, please contact Helen
Mauldin.
