Our Bee - Katy Rotary Club

We meet on Mondays at Quilt 'n Sew, beginning at 10 A.M.  The second Monday of each month is a sew-in.

Our bee was originally started by Paula Barnes (of Bonnie Blue Quilts) and goes back to the beginning of the guild.  Other members over the years who have gone on to make a name for themselves:  Marcie Wendrock, Mary Ellen Robison and Cynthia Regone.  We also have some top-notch appliquers, embroiderers, and piecers, and we are very proud of our many award-winners at the 2013 WHQG show!

We are an industrious bunch and have at least one exchange or challenge every year. There are 10 signed up to participate in this year's challenge, and all of the quilts will be entered in the quilt show in the group category. We've already selected our exchange pattern for 2015 and are happily collecting fabrics to get started.

Last year we donated 9 Project Linus quilts with storybooks, and in 2012 we donated 18 nursing home quilts. Several more Linus quilts were donated this year as several of the members didn't complete theirs by our deadline.

We are working on two quilts to be donated to the quilt show - one for the tin can raffle and one for the auction.  We will also be working on some donations to the market to be sold, and we are probably going to put together a basket for the tin can raffle, although that hasn't come up yet. (I'm thinking the bee would like it if there weren't so many of us on the quilt show committee!)

We are a fun bunch and have several parties each year.  Our next will be a Mardi Gras party, where we will play "quilty" games and eat way too much good food!

We are an active bunch, with several bee members in positions on the guild board.  We also have the largest percentage of persons attending the quilting retreats put on by the guild.

Fabric Challenge Quilts

We picked a bright fabric for our challenge for the 2014-2015. It's always amazing what our members can design.
