DIVISIONS

Master/Professional Division

If ANY of the following statements are true, you must enter under the “Master” division:

  • You are a quilter or maker of wearable art and you sell/have sold your work.
  • You teach/have taught quilting or wearable art techniques and been compensated.
  • You have published a quilt or wearable art book or pattern.
  • You have won a total of two or more blue ribbons in any combination of the following: West Houston Quilter’s Guild quilt shows, county, state, national or international quilting competitions.
  • You have had a quilt or garment juried into a highly prestigious exhibit.

Categories:

  1. Bed Size Pieced (one person). Any quilt which is larger than 72" on any one side and primarily patchwork; hand quilted.
     
  2. Bed Size Pieced (one person). Any quilt which is larger than 72" on any one side and primarily patchwork; machine quilted.
     
  3. Bed Size Pieced (two person). Any quilt which is larger than 72" on any one side and primarily patchwork, two people were involved in the making; hand quilted.
     
  4. Bed Size Pieced (two person). Any quilt which is larger than 72" on any one side and primarily patchwork, two people were involved in the making; machine quilted.
     
  5. Bed Size Appliqué (one person). Any quilt which is larger than 72" on any one side and primarily appliqué; hand quilted
     
  6. Bed Size Appliqué (one person). Any quilt which is larger than 72" on any one side and primarily appliqué; machine quilted.
     
  7. Bed Size Appliqué (two person). Any quilt which is larger than 72" on any one side and primarily appliqué, two people were involved in the making; hand quilted.
     
  8. Bed Size Appliqué (two person). Any quilt which is larger than 72" on any one side and primarily appliqué, two people were involved in the making; machine quilted.
     
  9. Wall Quilt Pieced (one person). Any quilt made for display on a wall. No side may exceed 72", primarily patchwork; hand or machine quilted.
     
  10. Wall Quilt Pieced (two person). Any quilt made for display on a wall. No side may exceed 72", primarily patchwork; two people were involved in the making; hand or machine quilted.
     
  11. Wall Quilt Appliqué (one person). Any quilt made for display on a wall. No side may exceed 72", primarily appliqué; hand or machine quilted.
     
  12. Wall Quilt Appliqué (two person). Any quilt made for display on a wall. No side may exceed 72", primarily appliqué; two people were involved in the making; hand or machine quilted.

Artisan Division

If ALL of the following statements are true, you may enter under the “Artisan division:

  • You have never sold your work (quilts or wearable art).
     
  • You have never formally taught quilting or wearable art techniques.
     
  • You have never published a pattern or a book on quilting/wearable art techniques.
     
  • You have won no more than one blue ribbon in any combination of the following: West Houston Quilter’s Guild quilt shows, county, state, national or international quilting competitions.
     
  • You have never had a quilt or garment juried into a highly prestigious exhibit.

Categories:

  1. Bed Size Pieced (one person). Any quilt which is larger than 72" on any one side and primarily patchwork; hand quilted.
     
  2. Bed Size Pieced (one person). Any quilt which is larger than 72" on any one side and primarily patchwork; machine quilted.
     
  3. Bed Size Pieced (two person). Any quilt which is larger than 72" on any one side and primarily patchwork, two people were involved in the making; hand quilted.

  10. Wall Quilt Pieced (two person). Any quilt made for display on a wall. No side may exceed 72", primarily patchwork; two people were involved in the making; hand or machine quilted.
     
  11. Wall Quilt Appliqué (one person). Any quilt made for display on a wall. No side may exceed 72", primarily appliqué; hand or machine quilted.
     
  12. Wall Quilt Appliqué (two person). Any quilt made for display on a wall. No side may exceed 72", primarily appliqué; two people were involved in the making; hand or machine quilted.

Open Division

These categories are open to anyone to enter.

  1. Miniature Quilts (one or two person) Any technique may be used. If interior blocks are part of the design, these blocks must measure 4" or less, hand or machine quilted.
     
  2. Other Techniques (one or two person) White work, embroidered, cathedral window, Yo-Yo, crazy quilts, or any other quilt that doesn’t fit into the pieced, appliqué or art quilt categories, hand or machine quilted.
     
  3. Art Quilt (one or two person) Original design, any technique or combination of techniques or materials used in a non-traditional way, hand or machine quilted.
     
  4. Group/Friendship Made by a group of 3 or more; ex: block exchanges/swaps.
     
  5. Mixed Technique (one or two person) Entry should include basically equal amounts of several techniques–pieced, appliqué, paper pieced; hand or machine quilted.
     
  6. Home Decor–items to be used in home–table runners, mantle covers, bell pulls, etc., hand or machine quilted.
     
  7. Wearables–items of clothing that must contain some quilting
     
  8. Kit or Block of the Month (NOT ELIGIBLE FOR BEST OF SHOW) Entry is primarily made from fabrics in a kit or from block of the month, even if some fabrics are substituted.
     
  9. First Timer (never entered a show–not necessarily first quilt made) Any technique, one or two person only, hand or machine quilted.

Display Only

These entries will not be judged

  1. Quilts by Kids.
     
  2. Any entry not to be judged.

Awards

1st, 2nd, 3rd, Honorable Mention may be awarded at the judges’ discretion in all categories except the entries for Display Only.

Plus the following:

Best of Show

Best Hand Quilting of all entries

Best Machine Quilting

Domestic sewing machine (machine is stationary)

Longarm, mid-arm or short-arm - (where machine head moves)

Judges’ Choice–awarded from each judge (3)

Viewer’s Choice

Presidents’ Choice

*The quilt show committee reserves the right to change the category in which your quilt is entered if necessary.
