When you send guild-related email to any member, include the guild initials WHQG in the subject line.  That way recipients will not hit delete without readying your message - maybe thinking that you are trying to sell health-enhancing drugs or the latest stock tips.

INFORMATION ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF COMFORT QUILTS

Placement of the label:

Nursing home: Place the quilt face down. Observe the correct orientation if the quilt has a directional pattern. Place the label in the lower left corner. If you are using your personal label, please include West Houston Quilter's Guild somewhere on your label. Otherwise, there are at least two labels on the quilt.

Project Linus: Place the quilt face down.  Observe the correct orientation if the quilt has a directional pattern. Place the label in the lower left corner. Please leave the lower right corner for the Project Linus label. If you are using your personal label, please include West Houston Quilter's Guild somewhere on your label. Otherwise, there are sometimes three labels on the quilt.

Comfort Quilt Sizes

Our Comfort Quilts are usually sized for personal use rather than the traditional bed covering size such as twin or full.

Recommended for Nursing Homes: approximately 39" x 55" finished.  This size works well with individuals in a wheel chair.  If you are using 6" squares:  7 squares across X 10 squares down will do the trick.

Project Linus Quilts vary with the age group you may be aiming for.  Smaller quilts for toddlers and larger for school age depending on the design or novelty print used.

Christmas Stocking Project

One of the projects that we work on each year is to provide stockings to the  Bear Creek Assistance Ministry's Christmas Express Stocking Program. The stockings you make will be distributed to children and adults who might not otherwise receive anything else for Christmas. Please turn in your stocking(s) to the community service chairperson at any guild meeting.  CLICK HERE for pattern and instructions.

Crochet Pediatric IV Cover

The IV cover pattern can be found on website: http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/iv-wrist-cover.html

Please use bright or dark yarn. No white or pale colors.  Turn in completed items to our community service table at any guild meeting.  The IV covers will be given to our local Project Linus chapter to be distributed to local hospitals.

Child’s Hospital Face Mask

The pattern for the facemask can be found on website:  http://www.itsmyheart.org/get-involved/sew-heart-masks/

The only requirement is that the masks are made with 100% cotton “kid friendly” fabric.

At any guild meeting, you can turn in completed masks to our community service table.  The masks will be given to a guild member who is connected with the It’s My Heart organization.

Easy Quilt Patterns

We strive to be accurate in my measurements and directions, however, as our seam allowances are not always perfect, be certain to make a test block. (If you buy fabric specifically for making test blocks for each of your projects, you'll end up with enough blocks to make a sampler, all without trying, and in fabrics that coordinate!) Also, measure your pieced top across the center in both directions, and adjust your border measurements accordingly.
